1828 - Green Flake, later one of the three African-Americans to enter the Salt Lake Valley with the first company of Saints, is born on the Jordan Flake plantation in Anson County, North Carolina. There are no known birth records for Hark Lay and Oscar Crosby, the two other African-Americans in the party.
1831 - In Fayette, NY, Joseph Smith receives Doctrine and Covenants 40, a revelation regarding the "fear of persecutions and the cares of the world" that cause some to reject the truth.
